Aslan is Nearer!

A Lesson Learned: by Robin Thomas

I want to live in Narnia!

I read The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe when I was nine, which created a lifelong fascination with Aslan.

Aslan is the lion, the Christ figure, of the Chronicles of Narnia created by C.S.Lewis. That’s why I’m Aslan’s girl!

Aslan is not a tame lion. When Lucy was inquiring about Aslan she asked if he was safe? “Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.” C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

In Narnia, the animals talk, the trees talk and creatures of all types: humans, dwarves, Fauns, Centaurs and Mythical beings await the return of Aslan to free them from eternal winter imposed by the White Witch.

Sound like anything familiar? The earth being freed from evil, perhaps?

I was listening to a Social Distancing version of the THE BLESSING sung by Elevation Worship along with people from all over the world. It was so amazing. People from all nations and races singing together in worship to the Lord.

It made me want to cry out in worship!

It made me think of the triumphal entry (Palm Sunday) of Jesus in Luke 19:35-40, when he was descending the Mount of Olives on a young colt, the disciples and the people who had witnessed Jesus’ miracles were crying out in worship to Him.

“Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Some Pharisees told Jesus to shut them up, but Jesus said,

“I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!”

That is how overpowering worship can be!

Can you imagine stones crying out in worship to God? Literal rocks crying out? I can, that’s why I want to live in Narnia.

Hey, God made water come out of a rock, I’m sure stones can speak too. (Exodus 17:6)

That’s a place I want to be, do you?

To get to Narnia the children went through a wardrobe, to get to heaven you go through Jesus.

Aslan traded his life for Edmund’s on the stone table and the witch thought she had won, but she didn’t know the deeper magic which said, (when) a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backward."

Thank goodness Satan was no match for God either since Jesus traded his life for ours and reversed death for those who believe.

Yep, I want to live in Narnia!
